EN Problem Solving - Do you really know what it is?

The term problem solving indicates the process in our brain that is used to analyze the problematic situation and find a solution.

"Reach a desired condition starting from a given condition".

The concept of problem solving implies a structured reasoning aimed at solving a complex situation, which cannot be obtained with the automatic application of already known procedures nor in such an intuitive way.

If the common process implies the use of innate or previously acquired procedures with a similar problem, then the problem solving becomes a sequence of operations at the end of which we arrive at a previously unknown solution.

It means finding a better solution to a solution that already existed previously.

I don't say it, science does.

It's like having a random object, say sushi chopsticks, you have long hair and you don't have an elastic. This is how problem solving comes into play: reinterpretation and adaptation in order to solve a problem, use the chopstick to tie your hair.

There are two types of problem solving:

1 - You go back to known methods to solve a problem. You already have the missing puzzle piece, you just have to understand that at that moment you need that specific puzzle piece.

2 - The solution cannot be achieved simply by applying known rules, but requires a change. The way to the solution in this case is just like a discovery.

When there is a problem to be solved, thought draws on the wealth of knowledge already acquired and often structured in the form of schemes corresponding to the various types of experience.

If, when the problem comes up, your reaction is "I'll call the boss and take care of it", it's not problem solving.

This too, everyone writes it in their CV, but have you ever really found a solution to a problem using a new method or finding a better solution for a pre-existing situation? We were never speaking about doing 2 + 2.

For some it is natural, they manage to shift perspective and have a very rapid cognitive processes, for others it takes practice, a warehouse of patterns and structural forms of possibilities that can lead to a solution, it is said, it is named experience.

What is most important is the actual realization of the complexity of this process and how much it is inflated at the moment.
